Job Description

The Scrub Nurse supports surgeons during operative procedures, ensures sterility, prepares instruments, and maintains smooth workflow within the operating theatre.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating rooms, surgical instruments, and sterile equipment for procedures.

  • Function as a scrub nurse, assisting surgeons directly during operations.

  • Maintain strict sterile techniques and infection control standards.

  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team throughout the procedure.

  • Handle surgical specimens according to protocols.

  • Perform instrument counts before and after surgery to prevent retained items.

  • Coordinate with circulating nurses, anesthetists, and surgical teams.

  • Ensure accurate documentation of procedures and instrument usage.

  • Participate in emergency surgeries when required.

  • Assist with equipment checks, maintenance, and readiness.


Requirements

  • Diploma/Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with the local Nursing Board.

  • Prior experience in Operating Theatre nursing is highly advantageous.

  • Strong understanding of sterile techniques, surgical instruments, and OT workflow.

  • Ability to remain calm, focused, and precise in high-pressure environments.

  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

  • Willingness to work shifts, including nights, weekends, or on-call rotations.

  • Meticulous attention to detail and safety.

  • Strong situational awareness inside the operating theatre.

  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, procedure-heavy environments.

  • Interest in surgical nursing specialties (e.g., orthopedics, general surgery, cardiac).
